First impressions are key. Here are some tips to guide you in preparing your house for the market and for showings


Interior

  • Make sure home is clean and smells fresh
  • Shampoo carpets, wax hardwoods, clean vinyl or tile and regrout if necessary.
  • Entryway floors are crucial
  • Does the fireplace need to be cleaned?
  • Does the oven/range need to be cleaned?
  • Are all kitchen appliances clean and shiny?
  • If you own pets, make sure their area is clean and odor free.
  • Have blinds and drapes open to bring in natural sunlight. Don't forget to dust the blinds.
  • Declutter and organize closets, garage and storage spaces.
  • Make all beds and put all clothes away.
  • Repair any loose fixtures, squeaky doors, leaky faucets.
  • Make sure bathroom sinks, tubs and toilets are clean and fresh.
  • Touch up or repaint walls if needed. Try to stick to neutral colors.


    • Exterior

  • Make sure lawn is neatly trimmed and edged.
  • Pull weeds from flowerbeds.
  • Make sure exterior is clean. Repaint if necessary.
  • Clean windows and replace any that are broken.
  • No trash or debris should be visible.
  • Clean pet areas.


    • Key points: Bright, clean and uncluttered! Don't forget nice curb appeal. Remember, a buyer will develop an opinion of your property within the first 15 seconds so follow these tips and make it a lasting impression.
